Tue - Sat 5pm to midnight

The last time we visited Gotham a few months back, it was by invitation.

Time to pay another visit as 'paying customers' to see if we are still suitably impressed.

We still really love the space. Dark & intimate, perfect for catching up with friends over a cocktail or vino and a few shared plates.

Starting our evening with:

The Brooklyn

The Big Apple
Both drinks are incredibly refreshing and full of fruity flavour. My Brooklyn is a little heavier on the passionfruit & pineapple, which I enjoy very much.

Following on from this we have:

Stuffed Green Olives (crumbed & deep fried)

The Olives are plump & juicy, but we are a little surprised by the stuffing. We are expecting something along the lines of feta, but they seem to be stuffed with something 'meaty'...we find this less appealing.

Fried zucchini flowers with parmesan & lemon
The flowers themselves are not stuffed, merely dipped in batter, deep fried & served with a sprinkling of parmesan & a lemon wedge. They are tasty; however, the very generous serve makes it difficult to finish.... you can only eat so much batter! A dish best shared with a group of 4 or more.

Pan fried olive and parmesan sandwich

Is anyone noticing a pattern here? I am noticing the words "deep fried' and "parmesan" cropping up a lot. We didn't really think it through.
The sandwich is as good as we remember & probably my favourite of the night.

Crisp Chicken Wings with lime mayonaise
Once again we have to say, some the best chicken wings we have sampled in recent times. Very good.

Pissaladiere
Probably the biggest disappointment of the evening.
Perhaps we have been spoilt, but Janette of The Larder fame makes a mean Pissaladiere. It contains generous amounts of caramelised onion, olive & anchovy. Unfortunately, the Gotham version fails to deliver on all counts. This is not to say it isn't tasty, but it isn't Pissaladiere as we have come to know & love it.

Warm Madeleine with sauternes
As always we like to finish on a sweet (and thankfully not deep fried) note. The Madeleine is light as air & the accompanying pear is also quite delicious. Certainly our preferred dessert of the two on the menu.

Service this evening was once again friendly and relaxed.

So, we have to say that even as paying customers we are still very impressed with Gotham & hope it will around for many years to come.

Overly generous servings sizes are such a rarity... :)
